Police Identify Victim Of Rocks State Park Incident

Maryland Natural Resources Police received a report on February 17th of a hiker involved in an accident in Rocks State Park. Upon arrival, police discovered a 22-year-old male who had fallen from rocks in the King and Queens Seat, a popular area with a 190-foot natural high rock outcrop.

During the investigation, police interviewed witnesses who said the victim had slipped and fallen to the area below. Police have identified the victim as Joseph Buxton of Savage, Maryland. The investigation is ongoing, according to the report.

Rocks State Park is located in Jarrettsville, Maryland in northern Hartford County. The park was purchased by the State of Maryland in 1949, in an effort to preserve an area known as the “King and Queen Seat”. The area is very popular among visitors because it provides a clear view of Deer Creek.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources warns of potential dangers when climbing the King and Queen Seat. Only skilled climbers are encouraged to attempt the climb.
