Maryland Department of Transportation Gears Up for Winter Weather
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is preparing to battle winter conditions as the first snowfall of the season approaches. MDOT officials recently held their annual “Snow Show” event to showcase the department’s winter storm preparedness plans.
MDOT has a budget of $76 million for the snow season and has stockpiled enough resources to tackle a heavy Maryland winter this year. The department has 93 facilities across the state with 390,000 tons of salt and 1.2 million gallons of salt brine.
In addition to stockpiling resources, MDOT has also invested in new technology to help improve its winter weather response. The department has deployed new anti-icing equipment and will be using a new mobile app to provide real-time information on snow removal operations.
MDOT is urging motorists to be prepared for winter weather and to stay informed on the latest road conditions. Drivers are reminded to slow down and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles when driving in snowy or icy conditions.
Winter Weather Preparedness Week in Maryland
