Fifth Teen Arrested in Connection with Deadly Mass Shooting in Baltimore

A fifth teenager was arrested in connection with a deadly mass shooting during a block party in Baltimore over the July 4th holiday weekend. The shooting left two people dead and 28 others injured.

According to authorities, the shooting took place in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Baltimore and involved multiple shooters who fired into a crowd of people. The latest arrest brings the total number of teenagers arrested in connection with the shooting to five.

The suspects’ identities have not been released, but authorities say that they are all between the ages of 14 and 18. They are facing a range of charges, including murder, attempted murder, and assault.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the shooting in a statement, saying it was a “senseless act of violence” with no place in the city.

“This is a tragedy for the families of the victims and for our entire community,” he said. “We will not rest until those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.”

Rev. Dr. Heber Brown III, a prominent activist and pastor in Baltimore, said that the shooting is a “tragic reminder” of the need for more action to address the root causes of violence in the city.

“We need to invest in our communities and provide young people with better opportunities and resources,” he said. “We also need to take a hard look at our gun laws and make sure that we are doing everything we can to keep guns out of the hands of those who would use them to harm others.”

Other community leaders echoed Rev. Brown’s sentiments, calling for more action from city officials and law enforcement to address the issue of gun violence in Baltimore.

The deadly mass shooting in Baltimore is just one of many incidents of gun violence that have plagued the city in recent years. According to data from the Baltimore Police Department, there were 348 homicides in the city in 2022, and more than 1,000 shootings.
