At a press conference on June 6, 2023, the NAACP presented a report highlighting the disparities in outcomes between Black and white students in Maryland. According to the report, Black students in Maryland are more likely to be suspended, expelled, and placed in special education programs than their white peers. They are also less likely to graduate from high school and attend college.

The report also noted that Black students in Maryland are more likely to attend underfunded and understaffed schools. The NAACP called on state and local leaders to take immediate action to address these disparities and provide equal opportunities for Black students in Maryland.

Speaking at the press conference, Maryland NAACP President Kobi Little said that the disparities in outcomes for Black students in Maryland are “intolerable” and must be addressed urgently. “We cannot continue to allow our children to be left behind,” Little said. “The future of our state and our nation depends on the success of all our children, regardless of their race or background.”
