380 housing units planned for former Cold War missile site in Gaithersburg

A former Cold War missile site in Gaithersburg, Maryland, will soon become a new housing development that includes 380 multifamily residential units. The approximately 14-acre property at 770 Muddy Branch Road was previously a Nike missile launch site installed to help defend the nation’s capital from enemy attacks.

The development proposal, presented by Clarksburg-based Pleasants Development Inc., includes up to 380 multi-family units across four development blocks with a height of up to five stories. The plan also includes 40% green space, gathering areas, open lawns, and sports courts.

The Planning Commission approved the sketch plan for the project, and the recommendation was made to the Mayor and City Council on May 3, 2023. The City Council has given the green light for the proposed development.

This development will transform a historic site into a new residential community, providing much-needed housing in the area. The project is expected to create jobs and generate revenue for the city. Construction is scheduled to begin soon, and the development is slated for completion in the coming years.
