Sofia Vergara and Foster Grant Partner for Limited Edition Griselda Sunglasses

One of the world’s leading over-the-counter eyewear brands, Foster Grant, recently announced the launch of its limited-edition sunglasses collection. In partnership with Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara, the exclusive eyewear collection is inspired by Netflix’s new limited series Griselda, which premiered globally on the streaming platform on January 25, 2024. Sofia Vergara stars in the limited series and also executive-produced the project.

The collaboration combines Foster Grant’s dedication to quality and style with the actress’ bold and empowering spirit. It includes four new sunglasses styles that harken back to the series’ setting, drawing inspiration from 70s and early 80s fashion. All four of the sunglasses in the Griselda collection offer 100% UVA/UVB lens protection, like all Foster Grant sunglasses. They are available for purchase exclusively on the brand’s website beginning January 25.

Griselda and 1970s Miami

The limited series from Netflix follows drug lord Griselda Blanco, played by Vergara, and her ambitious and grisly pursuit of starting a new business. Set in 1970s Miami, the show does a great job of immersing and persuading audiences to believe in Griselda’s life and story. This is reflected masterfully throughout the show’s cinematography, which draws from the color palette and grain structure of 70s photographs. Along with the show feeling like real footage from 1978, the show is backed by carefully chosen period details in production design and costumes.

Due to the themes in the series, the sunglass designs in the collaboration must be a visualization of the dangerous mix between the shady world of crime and drug empires and femininity — a femme fatale in eyewear form. As a result, the Foster Grant Sofia Vergara sunglasses reflect the grit and colors of this world. The four new sunglass designs feature oversized lenses and retro gradients. The New Navigator, for example, is a stylish 70s take on aviator frames with striking blue-tinted lenses, fit for both men and women. The black temples also feature an alluring evil eye logo on the tips, adding a touch of mystique to the eyewear’s look. Meanwhile, the limited edition Serious Shield has a visor-like silhouette with pink-tinted lenses. Like the New Navigator, the temples featured the subtle evil eye as an accent.

Sofia Vergara and eyewear

Notably, this isn’t Vergara’s first Foster Grant collaboration. In 2021, the actress launched a collaboration that included a variety of sunglasses, reading glasses, blue light glasses, and SunReaders for women. Unlike the Griselda-inspired exclusives today, the 2021 collaboration boasted feminine chic, featuring cat eye frames and a more classic look at dark-tinted aviators. The reading glasses styles feature magnifications for both traditional and blue light-reducing readers and also boast 100% UVA/UVB lens protection for outdoor use and reading.

The eyewear launch was also a charitable collaboration. For every pair of glasses bought, a pair of readers was donated to a person with vision issues in underserved communities. This initiative was done through Foster Grant’s Specs for Specs program in collaboration with RestoringVision.

Vergara herself has spoken about using readers when not working, so it would be interesting to see even more future eyewear collaborations and partnerships featuring the actress. Previously, we wrote about the actress’ divorce announcement after nearly eight years of marriage with Joe Manganiello. The couple shared the news in a joint statement to Page Six, sharing that it was an amicable decision. Today, the pair remains positive and respectful towards each other. Vergara and Manganiello tied the knot in Florida in 2015 and often shared photos and posts about each other on social media.
