Police: Three teenagers shot in west Baltimore

In a tragic incident, three teenagers were shot in west Baltimore on the night of July 21, according to Baltimore City police. The victims, aged 15-16 years old, were rushed to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred on Riggs Avenue, a residential street in the Edmondson Village neighborhood. Police responded to reports of shots fired around 9:30 PM and found the three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The motive for the shooting is not yet clear, and police have not released any information about suspects or arrests. The incident is the latest in a string of shootings involving teenagers in Baltimore in recent months.

Earlier in the year, a 15-year-old student was shot on the grounds of Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle School in north Baltimore. She survived the attack but was left with serious injuries. In another incident, a 17-year-old boy was shot by a Baltimore police officer in Southwest Baltimore and was hospitalized in critical condition.

The spike in violence involving teenagers has prompted calls for action from community leaders and elected officials. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott has vowed to address the root causes of the city’s high crime rate, which he has attributed to poverty, lack of opportunity, and systemic racism.

“We have to do more to invest in our young people and give them the resources they need to succeed,” Scott said. “We cannot continue to accept a status quo where violence is a daily reality for too many families in our city.”

The shooting on Riggs Avenue is a tragic reminder of gun violence’s toll on communities and families. As Baltimore and other cities across the country grapple with rising crime rates, it is clear that more must be done to address the root causes of violence and provide support and resources to those most at risk.
