Overlord Season 4: Expected Release Date & Plot Details

In 2015, Madhouse adapted Overlord light novel series for anime T.V. production. 

From July 7 to September 29, 2015, a 13-episodic first season of the anime series aired on T.V. The first season is based on the Overlord light novel volume 1 to 3. 

About the theme songs of the first season, its opening theme is “Chattanooga” by OxT, whereas its ending theme song is “L.L.L.” by Myth & Roid.

Following the release of the first season, a 30-minute long original video animation along with the 11th limited edition volume of its novel series was released on September 30, 2016. Moreover, compilation films that recap the anime T.V. series hit the screens in 2017: The Undead King & The Dark Warrior, respectively. Well, the theme song of both films was Crazy Scary Holy Fantasy by Myth & Roid. 

On the film screening of The Dark Warrior, Overlord was renewed for another season. Overlord Season 2, consisting of 13 episodes, premiered on January 9, 2018. The second season is based on volumes 4 to 6 of Overlord light novels.  

About the theme tracks of Overlord Season 2, the opening theme is “Go Cry Go” by OxT, and the ending theme song is “Hydra” by Myth & Roid.  

Soon after the second season’s release, the Overlord anime was renewed for another season. The third season of the Overlord anime series aired on July 10, 2018. Like the previous seasons, the third one also ran for 13 episodes. 

Overlord Season 3 is based on its novel’s volumes 7 to 9. 

The opening theme song of the third season is “VORACITY” by Myth & Roid, and the ending theme track is “Silent Solitude.” 

The last time we heard from Overlord was when a few of the characters from Overlord appeared in a comedy crossover anime entitled Isekai Quartet (2019).  

When Will Overlord Season 4 Arrive?

It has been two years, and fans are still waiting for the release of Overlord Season 4. Except for the desperate ones who have already read the light novels, fans are unaware of what is yet to come: Will Ainz succeed in ruling Yggdrasil’s world, or will the Brain be able to stop him?

In 2019, at the AnimagiC convention, the script writer Sugawara said that Overlord Season 4 would likely be produced shortly. So, here we were in 2020, still waiting for the arrival of its fourth season.

Unfortunately, until now, no official statement has been passed regarding the production or release of Overlord Season 4. However, it is confirmed that the fourth season covering the light novel’s volumes 10 to 12 will soon pop on our screens.

The author of the novel series plans to bring Overlord to its conclusion by publishing the 17th book/volume.

As yet, the Overlord Novel Series consists of 14 volumes. Only 9 of the total volumes have been covered in the anime series; indeed, Overlord will be renewed for another season.

Hopefully, Overlord Season 4 will cover 10 to 12 volumes, whereas the fifth season will cover the remaining ones. 

Following what the author has claimed, three more seasons are supposed to be released to cover volumes 10 to 17.

What is the Running Time of the Overlord Anime Series?

In every season, each episode runs for 23 minutes. This less than an hour is way beyond what we call magical: non-stop action & drama for continuously twenty-three minutes. 

Overlord Season 3 Finale Review 

By the end of Overlord Season 3, we witnessed that he finally, Ainz achieved what he longed for: he became the sorcerer king of the sorcerous Kingdom after defeating & killing Gazef. 

Even though Gazef can not defeat Ainz, he challenges Ainz to a duel and kills him. Well, there was something quite interesting that we got to learn about Gazef and his sword, that he possesses some unknown power that is way beyond his diminished mana powers. Ainz realized that by using such powers, Gazef’s sword would kill him. He cast a spell to stop the time and kill Gazef on the spot. 

To honor Gazef, Ainz called upon the Dark Young but warned Brain about the consequences that all the people would endure if they refused to surrender. 

Jircniv and the King and Nobles of the Kingdom, after knowing all about Ainz’s powers, were terrified to death. Thus, they gave up E-Rantel as Ainz wanted. 

However, following the unlikely duel challenge & gazef’s demise, Brain and Climb realize that by doing so, he has shown them a way to learn more about Ainz. They vowed to be way better than Gazef and defeat Ainz. 

So, at last, Ainz grabbed hold of E-Rantel while the people ran out of fear and terror. In the last few moments of the season 3 finale, we learned about Demiruge’s master plan: he planned to find out & kill enemies. Meanwhile, Momon (the new city representative and law enforcer appointed by Ainz) will act to serve Ainz but help the people fight against him. 

By the end of the last episode of Overlord Season 3, we witnessed Ainz as the sorcerer king, declaring that it would be the founding of the Sorcerous Kingdom. 

What to Expect From Overlord Season 4?

In Overlord Season 4, we will witness the rise of Ainz as the Sorcerer King of the Kingdom and see how Brain, Climb, and the rest of the people will be able to end the reign of Ainz terror. 

It would be hella exciting and full of action to have another season to watch: wait for the release of Overlord Season 4 if you want to know who will defeat Ainz. Gazef’s sword would play a vital role in doing so. Who knows if they will resurrect Gazef or if someone else will wield his sword to end Ainz? 

Let’s see what Brain & Climb offers to restore the peace in their Kingdom. They will indeed find a way to pause Ainz’s terror once & for all. Moreover, Apart from them, Momon will undoubtedly play a vital role in all this. We hope that we won’t end up dead just like the rest.
