Guilty Plea in Glen Burnie Liquor Store Shooting

A man has pleaded guilty to murder after a fatal shooting outside a Glen Burnie liquor store, according to prosecutors. 70-year-old Gregory Johnson entered the guilty plea on Friday, July 7th, in connection to the shooting that occurred on February 25th, 2023.

The 29-year-old Darius Davon Matthews victim was shot and killed outside the Clauss Liquors store on Crain Highway North in Glen Burnie. Johnson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and other related charges.

State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess announced the guilty plea in a press release on Friday. Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on September 12th, 2023, and could face life in prison.

This incident is just one of several recent violent crimes in the Glen Burnie area. In July 2022, a man was shot in the torso outside Clauss Liquors in Glen Burnie. And in September of 2021, a man was fatally shot after a fight broke out at the same establishment.

As the community continues to grapple with the issue of violence in the area, residents are calling for increased safety measures and for the authorities to take action to prevent further incidents. The guilty plea in the Clauss Liquors shooting is a step towards justice for the victim and his family and a reminder that those who commit acts of violence will be held accountable for their actions.
