Guillermo Lasso: Ecuador’s Current President

Guillermo Lasso, a conservative former banker, is the current President of Ecuador. He was sworn in on May 24, 2021, after defeating left-wing rival Andrés Arauz in a closely contested run-off election. Lasso has promised to revive Ecuador’s economy, battered by the coronavirus pandemic, and create jobs for the population. However, his presidency has been marked by political turmoil, including a looming impeachment vote and the dissolution of the government.

Despite these challenges, Lasso remains committed to addressing Ecuador’s economic and security issues.
