Feds Attempt to Seize $119 Stock Account Belonging to Late Roy McGrath

The United States government has filed a civil forfeiture complaint in an attempt to seize a $119 stock account belonging to the late Roy McGrath (source: The Baltimore Sun). McGrath, who passed away in 2021, was a former top aide to Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh and was charged with wire fraud and tax evasion concerning the Healthy Holly scandal.

According to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Baltimore, the government alleges that the stock account was purchased with funds that were obtained through criminal activity. The government is seeking to forfeit the account under federal law, which allows for the seizure of assets that are believed to be connected to criminal activity.

The complaint alleges that McGrath used his position as Mayor Pugh’s chief of staff to steer contracts to a company owned by Pugh, who later used the proceeds to purchase the stock account . McGrath was charged in 2019 and later pleaded guilty to the charges. He passed away in 2021 while awaiting sentencing.
