Lawrence Smith, the head football coach at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, has been taken into FBI custody for alleged overtime fraud. According to a report by the Baltimore Sun, Smith was arrested on Friday morning by FBI agents and is currently facing charges of timecard and overtime fraud.

Smith, who is also a school police detective, is accused of obtaining more than $215,000 in overtime pay between October 2020 and October 2021. He was under investigation by the FBI for several months before his arrest.

The news of Smith’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing disbelief and disappointment. Dunbar High School Principal, Dr. Tamara Hanson, released a statement saying, “We are deeply troubled by the allegations against Mr. Smith. We take these matters very seriously and are cooperating fully with law enforcement in their investigation.”

The Maryland Association of School Resource Officers, where Smith served as President, has also released a statement, saying, “We are aware of the charges against Mr. Smith and are monitoring the situation closely. We have no further comment at this time.”
