Governor Wes Moore has launched the Maryland ActNow campaign, a new initiative to close the digital divide in Maryland. This campaign ensures that all Marylanders can access high-speed internet, digital devices, and digital literacy training.

MARYLAND NEWS

The digital divide has become a critical issue in Maryland, with many residents lacking access to reliable internet connections and digital devices. This has become especially problematic during the COVID-19 pandemic, as many people have had to work and learn remotely.

At the launch of the Maryland ActNow campaign, Governor Moore said, “We cannot afford to leave anyone behind in the digital age. We must ensure that all Marylanders have access to the tools and resources needed to succeed in the 21st-century economy.”

To achieve this goal, the Maryland ActNow campaign will focus on three key areas:

1. Expanding Access to High-Speed Internet

The campaign will work to expand access to high-speed internet in underserved communities across Maryland. This will involve partnering with internet service providers to increase broadband access and investing in infrastructure to support high-speed internet connections.

2. Providing Digital Devices to Marylanders in Need

The Maryland ActNow campaign will also work to provide digital devices to Marylanders who lack access to these tools. This will involve partnering with tech companies to donate devices and working with local organizations to distribute them to those in need.

3. Offering Digital Literacy Training

Finally, the campaign will offer digital literacy training to Marylanders who lack the skills needed to succeed in the digital age. This will involve partnering with community organizations and training providers to offer workshops and training programs.

The Maryland ActNow campaign has already received widespread support from community leaders, tech companies, and advocacy groups. Regarding the campaign, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said, “This is a critical initiative that will help close the digital divide in our city and across the state. I commend Governor Moore for his leadership on this issue.”

The Maryland ActNow campaign is an important step toward closing the digital divide in Maryland. By expanding access to high-speed internet, providing digital devices, and offering digital literacy training, this campaign will help to ensure that all Marylanders have the tools and resources they need to succeed in the digital age.
