Captain Monty Hawkins Receives 2023 Maryland Sport Fisheries Achievement Award

Captain Monty Hawkins has been awarded the 2023 Maryland Sport Fisheries Achievement Award by the Maryland Sport Fisheries Advisory Commission and Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The award is given annually to recognize individuals who have significantly contributed to the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of Maryland’s sport fisheries.

Captain Hawkins is an accomplished angler and charter boat captain who has been a vocal advocate for sustainable fishing practices. He has worked closely with the Department of Natural Resources to promote responsible fishing and conservation efforts in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

“Captain Hawkins is a true leader in the sport fishing community and a tireless advocate for protecting and preserving our natural resources,” said Maryland Department of Natural Resources Secretary Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio. “We are proud to recognize his many contributions and accomplishments with this well-deserved award.”

The Maryland Sport Fisheries Achievement Award has been presented annually since 1985 and is considered one of the highest honors in the state’s sport fishing community. Captain Hawkins joins a distinguished list of past recipients who have significantly contributed to the conservation and management of Maryland’s sport fisheries.
