The 2023 BET Awards occurred on June 25, 2023, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The event celebrated 50 years of hip-hop and was hosted by comedian and actor Kevin Hart.
Drake and GloRilla led the nominations with seven and six nods, respectively. However, Coco Jones took home the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist award, beating out Ari Lennox, Beyoncé, H.E.R., Lizzo, SZA, and Tems.
Blxst won the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist award, defeating Brent Faiyaz and others. Meanwhile, Drake won the Best Male Hip Hop Artist award, beating out J. Cole, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, and Travis Scott.
In the Best Group category, 21 Savage and Drake won the award for their collaboration. The Best Collaboration award went to Drake and Future for their hit song “Life Is Good.”
Other notable winners included FLO for Best New Artist, Ice Spice for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, and Lola Brooke for Best International Act.
The ceremony also featured several memorable performances, including a tribute to the late DMX by Busta Rhymes, Nas, and Jay-Z. Other performers included Cardi B, Lil Nas X, and Tyler, the Creator.
