Cable

Cable connections are wire-based connections. They are ideal for people who want a speedy internet connection. The reason is that the data losses are quite less compared to wireless internet connections. Therefore, you can easily download heavy files. These connections are also ideal for streaming purposes and playing online games!

Dial-up

Dial-up connections are not popular anymore and offer slow browsing speeds. They are quite economical compared to other connection types. To perform simple tasks, they are ideal. For less data consuming tasks such as checking emails, posting on social media, and reading newspapers online, dial-up connections do a good enough job!

DSL

DLS connections are modern internet connections that provide high speeds. These connections work well for browsing, streaming, and online gaming.

How to Check Your Internet Connection

There are different ways to check what type of internet connection you have. They are as follows:

Ethernet 

Press together Windows with “C” or just type control panel in the search bar at the bottom of your Windows 10 screen. Here, type “network” and go to the “Network and Sharing Center”. You can also go there directly by going to the control panel first. Here, look for the “Ethernet” or “Wi-Fi” connection field. If your connection is ethernet-based, you will not be able to see any of these here. 

Dial-Up, DSL, or Cable

To check if you have a dial-up, DSL-based, or cable network, check the side of the laptop or the back of your CPU. Look for a telephone cord. If there is one, then you’re using a dial-up connection. 

If the cord is absent then look for a modem. Your CPU should be connected to it with the help of a network cable. If there’s only a single port for the cable then it’s definitely a modem. In case there are multiple ports for network cables, it is a router. Look at the back of the modem to check the type of cable. If it’s a telephone cable then your connection is DSL-based. Otherwise, if you see coaxial cables then it’s cable broadband!

Satellite

Checking if you have a satellite-based network connection is quite easy. All you have to do is go to your rooftop and see if you have a dish placed there. If you do, then you definitely are a subscriber of a satellite-based connection.
