The Real Steel is a 2011 American science-fiction sports film directed by Shawn Levy and based on the 1956 short story “Steel” by Richard Matheson. Where global warming has caused natural resources to dwindle and an ensuing cold war has left Earth’s cities riddled with poverty and crime. Most humans live outside of major cities in relative peace away from pollution and evil robots, while some people have chosen to take refuge in the few livable urban centres such as New Detroit.
Real steel is a movie about robots boxing and it does a great job of showing the connection between humans and their creations. Hugh Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a former boxer turned struggling robot fight promoter who has been reduced to using obsolete battle bots from his past in small, back-alley venues. When he learns that his estranged son Max has befriended an abandoned but highly advanced robot called Atom (a Real Steel), he tries unsuccessfully to get rid of the machine.

The plot of Real Steel is very exciting and keeps you entertained throughout the entire movie.
Another great scene is when Atom meets Max and they start to train together. This scene introduces the characters and their motivations for fighting. Another great fight scene is when Atom fights Max’s old robot at the end of the movie. This fight is very emotional and shows how much both robots have grown since they first met. Overall, Real Steel is an excellent movie with great action scenes that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.

What are the Reactions to Real Steel?
Real Steel received mixed reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a score of 54%. However, audiences loved it and it scored an 87% rating on RT. The general consensus seems to be that Real Steel is not great cinema but is good entertainment.
Real Steel has a great cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo (Max), Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand (Payne) Hope Davis (Helen), James Rebhorn(Nick Schenk). The movie is also directed by Shawn Levy who brought us Night at the Museum movies which were very popular with audiences. In addition to this Real Steel features excellent CGI animation of robots fighting each other and some spectacular action scenes such as the fight between Atom and Zeus on top of a skyscraper or when they battle it out while racing down an icy road in Alaska.
