Baltimore Samaritan Who Bandaged Shooting Victim Speaks Out

A Baltimore resident who came to the aid of a shooting victim during a block party in July 2023 has spoken out about the incident and the ongoing problem of gun violence in the city. The resident, Ashley Johnson, was interviewed by several news outlets after a shooting at the block party left two people dead and 28 others wounded.

According to ABC News, Johnson was inside her home when she heard gunshots and looked outside to see people running and screaming. She went out to investigate and found a teenage girl shot in the leg.

Johnson quickly sprang into action, using a towel to pressure the girl’s wound and keep her from bleeding out. She then called 911 and stayed with the girl until paramedics arrived. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital and was expected to recover from her injuries.

In interviews with several news outlets, Johnson expressed frustration and anger at the ongoing problem of gun violence in Baltimore. “All they know is guns,” she told US News. “It’s like they don’t know how to solve anything without guns. It’s ridiculous.”

Johnson’s actions have been praised by many in the community, who see her as a hero for her quick thinking and bravery in facing danger. However, she has downplayed her role in the incident, saying she was doing what anyone would do in that situation.

The shooting at the block party has once again highlighted the issue of gun violence in Baltimore, which has one of the country’s highest rates of gun violence. According to The Baltimore Sun, over 1,000 shootings in the city so far in 2023 have resulted in over 200 deaths.

Baltimore Residents Call for Action on Gun Violence

The shooting at the block party has sparked renewed calls for action on gun violence in Baltimore, with many residents and community leaders demanding that elected officials take bold steps to address the root causes of the problem. Some have called for increased police presence and stricter gun control laws, while others have advocated for more community-based solutions, such as job training and counseling programs for at-risk youth.

In a statement, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the violence and pledged to address the problem. “We cannot and will not accept this level of violence in our city,” he said. “We will work tirelessly to identify those responsible for this senseless act and bring them to justice. We will also continue to work with our partners in the community to address the root causes of gun violence and create safer neighborhoods for all residents.”

Community leaders have also spoken out about the need for action on gun violence in Baltimore. They have called for increased funding for community-based programs and initiatives to reduce gun violence and increase cooperation between law enforcement and community organizations.

Despite these calls for action, gun violence remains a significant problem in Baltimore and other parts of the country. Many residents feel frustrated and helpless in the face of this ongoing crisis. They are calling on elected officials and community leaders to take bold action to address the root causes of gun violence and create safer neighborhoods for all residents.

Ashley Johnson says she will continue to speak out about the issue of gun violence and do what she can to make a difference in her community. “We have to come together as a community and find solutions to this problem,” she said. “We can’t just sit back and watch our neighborhoods torn apart by violence. We have to take action and make a difference.”
