Baltimore Police Department Launches Investigation into Southwest District Shooting

The Baltimore Police Department has launched an investigation into a shooting in the city’s Southwest District. According to a statement released by the department, officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of Kingsley Street on July 24, 2023, to investigate a reported shooting.

When officers arrived at the location, they found a 21-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.

The shooting is the latest in a series of incidents in the Southwest District, which has seen a surge in violent crime in recent months. In December 2022, officers responded to an area hospital where a shooting victim walked in seeking treatment. In January 2023, officers responded to the 300 block of Millington Street for a shooting. In May 2023, officers responded to an area hospital for a report of a walk-in shooting victim.

Police Call for Community Assistance in Investigation

The Baltimore Police Department is calling on the community to assist with investigating the Southwest District shooting. The department said, “We are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.”

The department has also increased Southwest District patrols to curb the violent crime surge. In a statement, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said, “We are committed to working with the community to address the violence that has been plaguing the Southwest District. We will not rest until those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.”

The department is also working with community leaders and organizations to develop strategies to reduce violent crime in the Southwest District. In a statement, Mayor Brandon Scott said, “We are committed to working with the community and our law enforcement partners to address the root causes of violence in the Southwest District. We will not tolerate this senseless violence in our city.”

As the investigation into the Southwest District shooting continues, the Baltimore Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation. The department is also asking residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
