Baltimore County Officer Suspended After Arrest for Alleged Child Abuse in Harford County

A Baltimore County police officer has been suspended following his arrest on charges of alleged child abuse in Harford County. The officer, whose name has not been released, was charged with child abuse of a minor under 10.

According to CBS Baltimore, the officer was arrested on July 11, 2023, and immediately suspended from his duties. The charges stem from an alleged incident in Harford County, located just north of Baltimore County.

Baltimore County Police Chief Melissa Hyatt stated the officer’s suspension, saying, “We take these allegations very seriously, and we will fully cooperate with Harford County authorities as they investigate this matter.”

The officer’s arrest comes just weeks after another Baltimore County officer, Deandre Ross, was suspended without pay after being arrested and charged with theft, attempted theft, and misconduct in office. Ross, a four-year department veteran, allegedly tried to steal the identity of a deceased woman whose house he was dispatched to on March 16, according to WMAR 2 News.

These recent incidents have raised concerns about the conduct and behavior of police officers in Baltimore County. However, Chief Hyatt has emphasized that most officers in the department are dedicated professionals who serve their community with honor and integrity.

“We hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism, and we will not tolerate any behavior that falls short of those standards,” Chief Hyatt said. “We remain committed to earning and maintaining the trust of our community through transparency, accountability, and respect.”

The Baltimore County Police Department has launched an internal investigation into the recent incidents involving its officers. The department has also implemented additional training and support programs to ensure its officers are equipped to handle the challenges of their jobs with professionalism and compassion.

Despite these recent setbacks, the Baltimore County Police Department remains committed to serving and protecting its community. The department will continue working closely with local authorities to ensure justice is served in these and all other cases.
