Orlando Bloom was born in Canterbury, Kent, England, on January 13, 1977. His father, Colin Stone, was a Walter Scott Prize-winning novelist; his mother, Sonia Constance Josephine Copeland-Bloom, was an educationalist and teacher who specialized in art and photography. Bloom’s mother died in a car accident when he was four. When he was fourteen, his father moved the family to London to be closer to relatives. Orlando attended the Highgate School before moving on to Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1991.
