Stage Stores filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Virginia Board of Workforce Development on September 27. The notice indicates that the retail will close its distribution center in South Hill, Virginia.
The Houston-based retailer said its decision to close the distribution center is part of an effort to improve its “distribution network for efficient.” The employees impacted by the closure are not represented by a union. Separations are expected to take place on December 22.
The operations at the South Hill facility will be transferred to another center in Nebraska, Ohio or Texas. Stage Stores has about 13,000 employees and operates 792 stores, including Goody’s, Palais Royal, Bealls, Peebles and Gordmans.
“Our other distribution centers have ample capacity to service all of our department store and off-price locations as well as providing our e-commerce fulfillment, enabling us to streamline our distribution network and enhance efficiency,” said Michael Glazer, president and CEO in a statement.
