Sergeant With The Metropolitan Police Department Fatally Shot In Baltimore


Baltimore Police say a sergeant with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. was fatally shot, while off duty in the Western District.

Approximately 12:45 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the 2800 block of Elgin Avenue to investigate a reported shooting. At the scene, the responding officers located an adult male and vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.

Medics dispatched to the scene transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment. The first victim, a 40-year-old male was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving to the hospital. The second victim, a 43-year-old female suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

Detectives believe the victims were sitting inside a parked vehicle, when an unknown suspect approached and shot them.

The 40-year-old male was identified as Sergeant Tony Anthony Mason Jr. The female victim has not been identified.
