Prince George’s County Police Identify Suspect In Beltsville Homicide


Maryland – Homicide Unit detectives arrested a suspect in connection with a recent homicide in Beltsville. The suspect is 23-year-old Canaan Peterson of the 1200 block of North Luzerne Avenue in Baltimore. He’s charged with fatally stabbing 27-year-old Antonio Barnes of Evans Trail in Beltsville. The suspect and victim were in a relationship.

Canaan PetersonOn March 14th, at about 10:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the 11200 block of Evans Trail for a welfare check. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim outside suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect stabbed the victim during an argument.

Peterson is charged with first-degree murder and other related charges. He’s being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
