Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry earlier this month. The notice indicates the company will lay off 1800 throughout the United States in the first quarter of 2018.
Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Kennilworth, has close several of its manufacturing plants and laid off approximately 30,000 employees, since its buyout of Schering-Plough Corp. in 2009. The company announced the closing of its Miami Lakes facility in 2016, cutting 112 jobs.
According to the filing, Merck will close its facility at 351 North Sumneytown Pike in North Wales, Pennsylvania. The employees impacted by the closure worked from their home in different states and are expected to separate from the company January 1, 2018.
