Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Collision In Thurmont


Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal collision in Frederick County.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday morning, troopers responded to a collision on MD 77 East of Tower Road to investigate a three-vehicle collision.

A preliminary investigation revealed a Toyota Camry and Chevrolet Tahoe were traveling eastbound on MD 77 East of Tower Road. The Toyota tried to pass the Tahoe and hit a Ford F350 head on and then struck the Tahoe in the rear.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger in the Ford F350 refused treatment and five of the eight occupants in the Tahoe were airlifted to a local hospital by Maryland State Police helicopters.

The driver of Toyota was later identified as 37-year-old Carlos Deanilo Pablo-Lopez of Adelphi.

MD 77 was closed for an unspecified amount of time and traffic was detoured through Tower Road and Catoctin Hollow Road.
