Charles River Laboratories, Inc. filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation on November 16. The notice indicates the Massachusetts-based firm will close its research facility at 8501 Progress Drive in Frederick and lay off 57 employees.
Charles River Laboratories will close the research facility as part of the company’s effort to “streamline operation and enhance efficiencies,” the Baltimore Business Journal reports.
Employee separations are expected to begin in March 2018 and continue through August 2018, according to the filing.
The firm has more than 11,000 employees and 70 facilities in 16 countries. It works with leading biotechnology, academic, pharmaceutical and government organizations around the world. According to its website.
