Senator Ben Cardin Raises Almost $1 Million For Possible Re-Election

During the second quarter of 2017, Maryland Senator Ben Cardin raised almost $1 million. There has been speculation that Cardin would not run for reelection in 2018, but this figure should put the rumors to rest.

There are 24 Democratic incumbents, including Cardin, up for reelection next year. Between April and June, he raised $909,965, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The Maryland senator reported $1.7 million in cash-on-hand.

The 73-year-old Cardin has not finalized his decision to seek a third term. He is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, vocal critic of President Trump’s foreign police and has become a frequent guest commentator on national television.

In 2016, Senator Chris Van Hollen replaced retiring Senator Barbara A. Mikulski. He raised $6.3 million, even though Democrats tend to control Maryland’s Senate seats.
