Multimillionaire Businessman Announces His Run For Congress In Maryland

A Democrat from Maryland announced his campaign for Congress last week. David Trone, co-owner of Total Wine & More, formally announced that he is running for the open seat of Rep. John Delaney in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.

After spending $13 millions of his own money in advertising for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District in 2016, Trone ran an unsuccessful campaign. In a video released last week announcing his candidacy, he said his intentions are to follow Delaney’s approach to the job and fight for women’s rights, Social Security, health care, education and the environment.

Previously, Delaney announced that he would run for president in 2020. Voters will definitely closely watch the political contest, as President Trump’s administration is plagued with rumors of election meddling.

David TroneTrone, 61, has pledged to fight for more funding for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda and push for transportation projects.

Delaney did not endorse Trone or any of the other candidates.

“I’m glad my good friend David has such a deep commitment to both public service and to bringing his business experience to the political debate,” Delaney said in a statement.

Del. Aruna Miller and Maryland House Majority Leader C. William “Bill” Frick, both Democrats, have already started raising money for their campaign.
