Baltimoreans will have access to Lyft’s new luxury car services beginning Thursday. The high-end service is a step above Lyft’s Premier service, which launched in 2016, offering riders an array of ultra high-end vehicles, such as a Lexus ES, BMW X3 or GMC Yukon Denali.
The company’s Lux and Lux SUV services will be available in over a dozen cities, including Baltimore. The Lux service provides riders with “an ultra-high-end black car piloted by a top driver” and the Lux SUV service offers the same amenities as Lux “in a more spacious, ultra-high-end black SUV that seats up to six.”The starting price of the Lyft Lux is expected to be three to five times higher than the basic fare offered by the company and nearly double of the Premier fare. Baltimore riders currently pay $4.50 for minimum regular Lyft and $8.50 for minimum Premier, which means the minimum Lux price would range between anywhere between $12.75 and $22.50.
“The pricing will be consistent with what passengers would expect from a black-car service, said Mike Heslin, Lyft’s market manager for Baltimore.
Drivers are required to own a high-end vehicle 2011-or-newer model and have a 4.7 star rating, before they can qualify for Lux. Approved vehicles include the Jaguar, Porsche, Cadillac, Lincoln, Rolls Royce, Tesla and Maserati, along with some high-end Chevrolet, Toyota, Volvo and Hyundai models.
