Cascades Containerboard Packaging, a division of Cascades Housing US Inc., filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification in the New York City Region on August 29. The notice indicates that the Quebec-based company will close its Maspeth, New York facility on December 31, 2018.
Cascades specializes in products constructed from corrugated medium and linerboard. The products are utilized in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries.
In a press release, Cascades said the closing is part of an effort to boost its future development and offer improved service to its new and existing customers. The property and facility has been put on the market to be sold for $72 million.
Cascades recently opened a new 284,000-square-foot in Scappoose, Oregon.
According to the WARN notice, separations will occur within the 14-day period commencing on November 27, 2017 and close no later than December 31, 2018.
Layoffs will be progressive from 12 to 18 months.
