Retail giant, Walmart filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry earlier this month. The filing indicates the company will close its Bristol store and lay off 197 employees.
In January 2016, Walmart announced that it would close 269 of its 11,600 stores, excluding Pennsylvania. The closures included Walmart Express, Amigo, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Supercenter and Neighborhood Market locations. The decision to close the stores was due to “financial performance and strategic alignment with long-term plans.”
The Walmart store at 100 Commerce Circle in Bristol will close and the employees are expected to separate on December 22, according to the filing.
