top gun maverick 2

We have been waiting for Top Gun 2 to come out since Top Gun came out in 1986. The first Top Gun was a huge success, and we are sure that the sequel will be just as good, if not better. So many of us have been wondering when Top Guns 2 release date is going to happen so we can get our popcorn ready.

What is the release date of Top Gun 2?

There has been a series of dates for Top Gun: Maverick. But now it will be released on  19th November 2021.

The movie’s sequel was going to be released on 12th July 2019, but then it was pushed back. It became 26th June 2020 and then 17th July 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic made the film delayed again. The film will be released on 23rd December 2020. Paramount wanted to release the movie in July, but it was delayed again to November.

The next movie will come out more than 35 years after the first one. The delay was due to Paramount Pictures wanting time to show new planes and technology.

Tom Cruise shared the news that Top Gun: Maverick will be released in December. He says, “I know many of you have waited 34 years.” Then he shares that it will be a little longer.

The movie took a long time because the director wanted to make it good. He didn’t want to take a long time. Filming started in May 2018 and ended in June 2019.

What is the plot of Top Gun 2?

We showed exclusive footage of an important part of the film. The first 13 minutes were shown at CinemaCon. So this is not a big spoiler for people who have not watched it yet.

Tom Cruise’s Maverick was told by the Admiral that Top Gun is shutting down. But Maverick doesn’t listen to the rules and flies his plane really fast. Then it looks like an explosion has taken out the pilot.

Maverick is alive. He walks into a diner and asks, “Where am I?”

The little boy responds, “Earth.”

Pete “Maverick” Mitchell has been a pilot for the Navy for over 30 years. He is always pushing the limits and dodging advancements in rank that would make him stop flying.

Maverick’s friend Goose died. He worked with pilots, and they flew planes. Maverick meets Rooster, the son of his friend who died.

Top Gun: Maverick' movie release postponed to 2022 due to coronavirus surge

Maverick is scared about the future. He is faced with ghosts from his past, so he has to go on a mission that will be tough. People will die, but it’s worth it if they can do it.

The new movie will focus on the days of dogfighting. It will also focus on new drones. People think that, just like in the original, our pilots will face off against Russia.

Who will be starring in Top Gun 2?

Tom Cruise will play Pete “Maverick” Mitchell again. He will be in the movie with Val Kilmer as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, but we haven’t seen him in any of the trailers yet. Miles Teller will be playing the part of Goose’s son and Maverick’s new protégé.

Teller said about his character, “It is wonderful because I am now a man, and there is also history with Maverick. The film is phenomenal.”

Ed Harris (a Rear Admiral) has joined the cast. Jon Hamm (a Vice Admiral), Lewis Pullman (Bob, a pilot trainee), Jennifer Connelly, and Glen Powell (Hangman, another pilot trainee) have also joined the cast. Connelly is the movie’s lead who is a single mother who runs a bar near the military base. There will be another actor playing an important role, Manny Jacinto from A Good Place.

At one point, it seemed that Kilmer had confirmed the retired Gene Hackman would appear in the movie, but this is not true. Michael Ironside also won’t be back as Lieutenant Commander Rick ‘Jester’ Heatherly – apparently, his relationship with the director Jerry Bruckheimer isn’t very good.

Jon Hamm talks about his character in the movie. He says he is not like Viper to Tom but that he is an air boss for a fighter wing. If Maverick rubs him the wrong way, there will be friction between them.
