The Wonder Years: Coming-of-Age Comedy TV Series In 2021

The Wonder Years is a coming-of-age comedy television series to be set in 2021, created by Saladin K. Patterson for ABC and based on the original 1988 American coming-of-age comedy television series of the same name. The show will follow the story of Williamses, a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, through the point of view of imaginative 12-year-old Dean. The show will premiere on September 22, 2021.

It was positively reviewed by critics, who praised the humor, unique perception of the world around, and Patterson’s portrayal of the protagonist. The previous series has raised the bars for the upcoming series.

Adaptation of the 1980’s Show

The series originally premiered in 1988-1993 on ABC, created by Carol Black and Neal Marlens. The new series is an adaptation of the original series.

The new season of the show has been ordered by Lee Daniels, Saladin Patterson, and Fred Savage. Fred Savage also served as a star of the original series.

What Will the Series be about?

The original series ran around Kevin Arnold portrayed as his older self, recalling his childhood growing up in the late 1960s and ’70s learning about personal and social issues.

The new season of Wonder Years will follow a similar format with the same time frame. Only this time, the show will be about a black family, Williamses, living in Montgomery, Alabama, as they come of age during this tumultuous era when they were struggling through their adolescence.

The wonder years series was successful in sharing morals and lessons through the eyes and experiences of a child. The series will be no different as it follows the kid, Dean, who is 12 years old, growing up in Montgomery, Alabama, during the civil rights era.

The show is not just about race, though; we’ll see how other factors shaped these young people’s lives, such as gender roles or class struggles that would affect their growth into adulthood beyond.

The cast of the Upcoming Wonder Years

Previously, it was announced that the wonder years would be headlined by a few actors, who will play grown-up versions of Dean and his friends.

The Wonder Years has cast Elisha Williams for Dean Williams, Don Cheadle for Narrator, Laura Kariuki for Kim Williams, Dulé Hill for Bill Williams, Saycon Sengbloh for Lillian Williams, Milan Ray for Keisa Clemmons, Amari O’Neil for Cory Long, and Julian Lerner for Brad Hitman.

When will the Wonder Years Premier?

The Wonder Years is all set to premiere its debut season on September 22, 2021, at  8:30 p.m, Wednesday on ABC Studios.
