What is the Plot of The Santa Clause?

The Santa Clause The film starts off with Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) getting fired from his job as a toy executive, right before Christmas. The year is 1994 and he must now find some way to provide for his wife Anne Marie and son Charlie. To make matters worse, it’s been raining in the city of Colorado all day long, which has caused water damage to their home.

The family heads out into town where they meet up with Annie’s sister Jeanette, who has come over to help them prepare the house for sale. She offers them an old wooden sleigh that once belonged to her grandfather as payment for helping fix their roof. They accept and when Charlie goes outside later on during a lightning storm he becomes trapped. The sleigh, which is now attached to his bike, begins to fly away with him. Meanwhile, Scott is at the North Pole being evaluated by the head elf Bernard for promotion to Santa Claus. The evaluation is cut short when an emergency arises and Scott is called back to Earth. He finds out that his son has been taken by the sleigh and sets off after it.

The Santa Clause has been generally well-received by audiences and critics alike. The first film holds a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the second and third films hold ratings of 86% and 64%, respectively.
