The Book Thing Will Reopen In October

The Book Thing, a Baltimore-based free book warehouse, has announced that it will reopen in October.

The book haven was housed in a space on Vineyard Lane, before it was damaged by fire in March 2016. Since then, The Book Thing has been periodically hosting donation drop-offs and drives.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Russell Wattenberg, founder of The Book Thing, is waiting to obtain occupancy permits, before it can reopen. After the permit is granted, Wattenberg said he would build 250 new bookcases for 200,000 books and move then into a warehouse that has been renovated.

The warehouse will feature a water fountain, well-lit rooms and handicap-accessible bathrooms.

In the meantime, Wattenberg is accepting air purifiers, refrigerators, office supplies, hand towels, carts, bottled water and cleaning supplies.
