The Maryland State Police arrested a man on January 4, 2019 on charges that he attempted to kill a man and burn down his home in Cecil County. 41-year-old Brandon Michael Reynolds had been charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder. He will also face charges of second-degree arson, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. Reynolds is currently being held at the Cecil County Detention Center without bail. The preliminary investigation alleges that Reynolds arrived at a home in the 100 block of Silchester Drive in Elkton, Maryland around 3:50 PM.
The grandfather of his son resided at the home. Investigators believe that Reynolds was brandishing a knife. He is accused of assaulting a male victim as an argument ensued. A short time later, the victim detected smoke and noticed that the front of the house was engulfed in flames. Everyone managed to escape the house unharmed. Troopers arrived and arrested Reynolds on the scene. Police believe that Reynolds had planned the assault and may have been under the influence of drugs at the time. It is suspected that Reynolds poured accelerate in front of the house and lit the fire.
The investigation is currently ongoing. At this point in time, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
