Shake And Bake Family Fun Center Announces Temporary Closing For Major Repairs
Shake and Bake Family Fun Center announced Tuesday that it would temporarily close to attend make some much needed repairs. The bowling alley and skating rink at 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore’s Upton neighborhood was opened over three decades ago. The building was once the home of the Regent Theater.
City officials will seek out community members to determine what type of programming they would like to see offered at the facility when it reopens. A reopening date has not been set, as the building is old and upgrades are needed to the kitchen area, railings and heating and air conditioning system.
The center will hold its final event on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at which time children will be offered free manicures, haircuts and school supplies. According the Baltimore City Health Department, almost half the children in the Upton neighborhood live in poverty.
