Sascha’s 527 Café Will Shutter Its Doors For The Last Time Next Week

Sascha’s 527 Café announces plans to close at the end of the service on August 4.

After selling her catering business to Mallory Staley, Sascha Wolhandler put the building at 527 North Charles Street on the market. Sascha’s Catering operated out of the building, along with The Elephant, in which Mallory Staley is a partner.

She said the decision to close the café and sell the building was made in the last year. The name of the buyer was not revealed, but the building is under contract.

The 9,500-square-foot space is located in close proximity of the Washington Monument and is where Sascha’s Catering has been in operation for over 30 years. Wolhandler opened the business in 1986 and in 1990 she added a café in the rear of the building.

The property features a commercial kitchen, parking, two apartments and a restaurant on the first floor. The building has an extensive history, housing tenants such as the Andre’s Empire Salon and Baltimore Opera Company.

Sascha said the move is bittersweet and she will miss the people most. She will host a party on August 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate the restaurant’s legacy and reunite with former employees.
