Residential Property Taxes – Prince George’s County, Maryland
Owning a home is a dream come true, but it comes with many responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is paying property taxes annually. The Prince George’s County Treasury Division mails out residential tax bills in July each year. It is important to note, just because a tax bill was not received, it does not exempt the property owner from paying penalties. Taxes that are not paid by the due date may accrue tax, penalties and interest.
Calculate Property Taxes
Property owners can calculate their property taxes, by multiplying the assessment by the tax rate and divide by 100. The tax rate and assessment is located on the tax bill.
Tax Credits
Some property owners may qualify for tax credits, provided by the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation. Tax credit programs include:
- Homeowners’ Property Tax Credit
- Homestead Tax Credit
- Renters’ Tax Credit
- Disabled Veteran Exemption
- Blind Exemption
To learn more about these programs visit the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation official website. The Department may be contacted by phone at the following telephone number: (301)-952-2500.
Additional Charges
Additional charges may be on the tax bill, including tax lien, solid waste service and Front Foot Benefit.
- Tax Lien – a charge to enforce unpaid taxes or fines. Contact the Treasury Division, if you have any questions about this charge at (301) 952-4030.
