Netflix is joining up with singer and actress Sofia Carson for Purple Hearts. A romantic film based on Tess Wakefield’s novel of the same name. In an effort to extend its library of Young Adult material.

Kyle Jarrow (Valor), a Tony Award nominee, and Liz Garcia wrote the film’s script (The Lifeguard). Purple Hearts is produced by Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton. Who has worked on shows including Everything, Everything, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and The Vampire Diaries? Dutton has also spoken out about her experience working on Purple Hearts:

What’s the plot of Purple Hearts?

Cassie Salazar and Luke Morrow are diametrically opposed. Cassie, a sharp-witted bartender in Austin, Texas, works evenings to make ends meet while chasing her goal of becoming a singer/songwriter. Luke is an Army recruit preparing to embark on his first tour of duty, and he finds solace in the unwavering discipline of the military. However, a fortuitous meeting in Cassie’s pub alters the direction of both of their lives. Cassie’s medical costs piled up since she diagnosed with diabetes.

When she sees her old buddy Frankie, who is now enrolled in the Army, she offers him a deal. She’ll marry him in return for better medical insurance. And they can split the extra salary that comes with having a “family.”

When Frankie rejects, his gorgeous but obnoxious buddy Luke offers to marry Cassie in his place. What she doesn’t realize is that he has his own pressing motives for getting married. In this memorable love story, Cassie and Luke must put their differences aside to make it appear as though they are married…unless it becomes one along the road.
