Prince George’s County Police Make Arrest In Attempted Murder Of Pregnant Woman


Around 11:45 a.m. Friday, first responders received a report of an apartment fire in the 1400 block of Elkwood Lane in Capitol Heights. At the scene, officials located a pregnant woman who had suffered severe burns. The victim told detectives she had fled the apartment and who was responsible for setting the fire.

Detectives arrested the suspect who was identified as Laquinn Phillips, 34, of the 2100 block of Ridgecrest Court in Southeast Washington, a short time later outside his home.

ArsonPhillip and the victim had been in a romantic relationship, detectives said.

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where physicians delivered her baby. The victim and baby are listed in critical condition, police said.

Police charged Phillips with attempted first- and second-degree murder, assault, arson and other related charges.
