Prince George’s County Police Identify Victim In Fatal Capitol Heights Shooting


Maryland – Detectives with our Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Joseph Maurice Ward of Medway Street in Silver Spring. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Tipsters will never have to give their name.

On February 14th, at approximately 4:20 pm, patrol officers were called to the 1300 block of Oates Street in Capitol Heights for a welfare check. Upon their arrival, the officers discovered Ward suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was located outside near a vacant house and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive in this case.
