Non-Citizens Now Permitted To Vote In College Park Municipal Elections


College Park has taken the steps to permit non-citizens to vote in local elections.

The Washington Post reports Mayor Patrick Wojahn and city council of College Park voted Tuesday night to expand voting rights to student-visa, illegal immigrants, residents with green cards and student-visa holders.

College Park Local ElectionThe council voted 4-3 to permit non-citizens to vote in local elections. Wojahn told the Washington Post the majority of College Park residents who initially opposed the amendment, wrote to him in support of the proposal.

Previous harassment and threats prompted local law enforcement to be on hand at the Tuesday night.
