That win set the stage for a 10-6 season for Buffalo and a second playoff berth in three years. New York, meanwhile, struggled through the first half of the season before winning six of its last eight games.

This will be the third career meeting between quarterbacks (and 2018 draft classmates) Josh Allen and Sam Darnold, plus the Bills debut for wide receiver Stefon Diggs against a Jets defense that is without All-Pro safety Jamal Adams (traded to Seattle) and linebacker C.J. Mosely (opted out).

Buffalo’s campaign to win the AFC East will start with a matchup against a division rival as the team hosts the New York Jets. This will be the third time in four seasons that the two teams have faced off to start the season.

New York finished the 2019 season strong going 6-2 down the stretch. Of course, one of those victories came against a Bills team in Week 17 that featured backups for the majority of the game. The Jets will feature a lineup with many new faces. New York brought in several new faces on the offensive line, added a few weapons to the wide receiver room and added veteran Frank Gore to the running back room.

The Bills also have some new faces of their own. Veterans such as Stefon Diggs, Mario Addison, Quinton Jefferson, Vernon Butler, A.J. Klein and Josh Norman were added via trade or free agency, but there isn’t much turnover to Buffalo’s roster. No team in the NFL enters the season with more continuity.

The outcome of the game could come down to quarterback play. All eyes will be on Josh Allen and Sam Darnold, close friends and former first-round picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, to see the progress they have made entering their third seasons in the league.
