Milestone Recovery Reaches Settlement To Resolve False Claims Allegations

U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced Friday Milestone Recovery, Inc. has entered into a settlement agreement with the State of Maine and United States to resolve false claim allegations.

Judge And JuryMilestone allegedly submitted false claims to Maine’s Medicaid program, MaineCare, from June 2015 through July 2016. The United States pays approximately two-thirds of medical claims submitted to MaineCare.

The money MaineCare paid to Milestone was utilized to pay the benefits and salary of a Milestone employee who had previously been excluded from the MaineCare and federal health care programs, according to a civil complaint.

The employee had surrendered her nursing license for diverting Oxycodone and Fentanyl while employed at a hospital, prior to joining Milestone. Milestone was aware of the circumstances behind the employee’s surrendering of her nursing license, but failed to validate if she was excluded.
