Maryland State Trooper Hospitalized After Being Hit By Drunk Driver On Capital Beltway


A Maryland State trooper was struck by a drunk driver on I-495 in Prince George’s County early Saturday morning.

Approximately 1:30 a.m., TFC Angel Ortiz was working on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway at Allentown Road when a vehicle struck the rear of his patrol vehicle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 7-year veteran’s vehicle was parked in lane 4 on the outer loop behind a disabled vehicle, when a silver Audi A-5 driven by 51-year-old Maurice Gresham of Lanham struck his patrol vehicle.

TFC Ortiz was taken to the Prince George’s Hospital for treatment. Troopers arrested Gresham for driving under the influence and transported by ambulance to Prince George’s Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
