Maryland State Police responded to a single-vehicle collision approximately 8:15 p.m. Wednesday. At the scene, troopers located a damaged vehicle with occupants trapped inside it.
Troopers were dispatched to I-97 South at MD 648 to investigate a collision. The driver and passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle. The driver who was identified as 21-year-old Rommel Reyes Benitez of Reisterstown was taken to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he later pronounced deceased.
The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Marcus Moore of Hampstead, was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
The investigation revealed the vehicle was operating recklessly and speeding at the time of the collision.
