Approximately 3 p.m. Sunday, troopers were dispatched to the 11000 block of Freetown Road in Princess Anne to investigate a reported shooting. At the scene, officers located a 31-year-old man who had been fatally shot.
Through an investigation, troopers were able to identify the suspect as 33-year-old Donte Sylvian Sumpter of Princess Anne. Sumpter was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony and first- and second-degree assault.
The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Arthur Terrell Alford of Salisbury.
Sumpter is being held at the Somerset County Detention Center.
