The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) unveils a new initiative for its bookstore. The institute will start by relocating its bookstore to 1501 Mount Royal Avenue, expanding its footprint to 4,500 square feet.
While the move from 1200 West Mount Royal Avenue to the new location is only three blocks, MICA hopes to develop a closer relationship with the Station North community.
The new bookstore will feature galleries, how-to-workshops and a rotating art market filled with merchandise made by the students, alumni and faculty at MICA, as well as local artists that are not associated with the school.
Hosting book signings, lectures and host speakers will also be on the agenda.
MICA will stock the new store with art supplies, books and a larger selection of raw materials like fabric, lumber, hardware and metal.
“With the expanded footprint, the MICA Store will be able to be more inclusive for the MICA and Baltimore community, MICA’s public relations manager, Derek Parsons, said.
The remodeling process is expected to be completed by August 28, 2017, just in time for the start of the fall semester.
